DOWNTOWN ANNUAL SPRING CLEAN-UP, BUSINESS CHALLENGE, AND FLOWER BASKETS

Vancouver’s Downtown Association, City of Vancouver, Parks Foundation of Clark County, and Uptown Village, are partnering to plant summer flowers at Propstra Square and spruce up around the downtown core through Uptown on May 11th from 9:30am –12pm. Projects and Times:

Volunteers are asked to bring water bottles, gloves, kneeling pads, trowels or other hand tools for the cleanup. Volunteers should dress for the weather and wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. Youth under 18 must have a parental consent completed via the online RSVP. Youth under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. In conjunction with the annual spring clean-up, VDA’s Spruce the Couve Cleanup Challenge is encouraging downtown businesses to gather co-workers to take on projects around their business location or in a public space within the downtown district by May 20th .

VDA’s Promotions Committee of VDA will select a winner of the challenge on May 24th. The winning team will be awarded with a pizza party and a fun activity—sponsored by Columbia Credit Union.

Businesses will be taking on a variety of tasks, including:
– Cleaning up graffiti
– Adding planters or plants to tree wells or bare areas
– Adding bark dust to tree wells or bare areas
– Litter clean-up

In tandem with these activities, VDA’s Flower Basket Program will return on Thursday, May 9th. The beloved program features hundreds of glorious hanging baskets from the Waterfront, to the Historic Core, and through Uptown Village. This program relies purely on individual & business contributions to make this effort possible. Donations help cover costs for basket acquisition, watering, maintenance and warranty.
